Missing the Basics Conference?

For the past two decades, pastors and ministry leaders have attended the annual Basics conference at Parkside Church in early May. Hosted by Alistair Begg, Basics encourages men in ministry to faithfully preach God’s Word and carry out the practical aspects of their callings while also providing an opportunity for church leaders to share in valued fellowship.

The event has long been one of our favorites here at Truth For Life. But like many large gatherings during the COVID pandemic, Basics 2020 and Basics 2021, which were each scheduled to host men from all around the world, were both cancelled. Nonetheless, as Alistair and the Basics team affirmed when the cancellation was announced, “We know and trust that God’s Word is not bound and His Spirit is at work.” That is our great hope when we consider the relative emptiness of Parkside’s auditorium. God does not need conferences for His Word to accomplish its purposes.

Our mission at Truth For Life is to teach the Bible with clarity and relevance so that unbelievers will be converted, believers will be established, and local churches will be strengthened. One of the primary ways God has seen fit to strengthen local churches through Truth For Life has been by the preaching of His Word to pastors and ministers. And we are more committed than ever to serving those leaders.

To that end, if you’re in pastoral ministry, please visit the Basics conference library, which contains all of the Basics messages from 2002 through 2019. In the archive you’ll have free, unlimited access to sermons, Q&A panels, and breakout sessions from many faithful and seasoned pastors who provide wise instruction about local church ministry and preaching.

We’re also thrilled to announce that all 68 sermons from Alistair’s eight-volume series The Pastor’s Study have been fully transcribed, if you prefer reading over listening. These sermons cover a wide range of topics, from weighing the call to ministry to establishing and maintaining God-centered church leadership to preaching Christ from the Old Testament—and so much more!

As we aim to fill the gap created by the Basics cancellation, keep your eye on the Truth For Life blog. Throughout the month of May, we’ll post several articles on topics including preaching, theology, and shepherding God’s people.

If you’re not already receiving weekly blog updates, you can quickly subscribe now.

And if you’re not in ministry, please forward this information to your local pastor so that he can be strengthened for the work of the Gospel.

As always, if you’d like our team here to point you to pastoral content on a particular topic, please contact us in whatever way’s most convenient for you.
